Axogen is hiring for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager in Alachua, FL or Tampa, FL!

Job Summary of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety has overall strategic responsibility for planning, designing, implementing, administering, and directing all safety, worker's compensation and environmental programs in support of the organization's business strategies. Ensures compliance at all of five of Axogen's facilities with all federal, state, and local legal requirements including DOT, FMSCA, OSHA, and other Federal, State, and local environmental regulations; prepares or directs the preparations and filing of legally required reports and permits. Ensures the development of Environment Health & Safety (EHS) department and staff. The Safety Manager should be adept at OSHA regulations and requirements, hazard communications, chemical hygiene, and compliance and security protocols for a restricted access work environment. The right candidate possesses a solutions-oriented mindset with an ability to create and maintain strong relationships in a project-based environment. The Safety Manager leads through positive influence to shape the safety culture at Axogen to generate outcomes that always protect the safety and well being of our people.

Requirements of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or closely related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum five plus years of progressive experience in Health and Safety.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Training for Construction & General Industry
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR and AED is preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and work across divisions and departments, providing clear safety leadership to all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to travel to plant locations as much as 20%.
  • High level of organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player

Responsibilities of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The specific duties of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for EHS program for all Axogen locations (currently Dayton, OH, Tampa, FL, Alachua, FL, Burleson, TX). This may include obtaining appropriate licenses for each state as needed.
  • Leads in strategic planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, programs and procedures to ensure that the organization is in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT0, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) and any industry specific regulations and standards
  • Identify compliance, safety, health, and/or environmental training needed to educate and train employees; work with Human Resources, managers, and supervisors to schedule and implement programs, and deliver training as needed.
  • Conduct Injury, Accident, Property Damage Reports Accident Investigations and Root Cause Reports.
  • Maintain Accident and Injury Registers or Logs.
  • Be on call to respond to work-related accidents and/or injuries 24/7 when site safety representatives and EHS Officer are unavailable.
  • Perform Safety Orientations for new employees as needed.
  • Ensure job-specific PPE is on hand for all employees as needed.
  • Ensures the preparation, submission and updating as necessary of all permits relating to environmental regulation. Will also ensure all reporting to the appropriate agencies is accurately prepared and submitted on time as required through regulation or permit requirements.
  • Review new regulatory requirements and initiate technical guidance in the formulation, interpretation, and application of company policies and procedures as they pertain to workers' compensation claims, occupational health and safety regulations, and other related issues.
  • Oversee Workers Compensation program, ensuring appropriate coordination with Human Resources.
  • Ensure that OSHA Reports (300, 301A, and 301) are prepared and filed / distributed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the compilation and development of data for annual renewals / audits of company insurance programs, including property and casualty programs, approval of submissions, and negotiation of terms and premiums.
  • Oversees the analysis of collected data and implementation of programs to abate environmental and safety concerns.
  • Oversees the administration of the workers' compensation programs, including working with the insurance carrier or third-party administrator to reduce employee lost time and overall costs.
  • Overall responsibility for planning, directing and implementing facility security systems and programs, and negotiating contracts with outside security providers.
  • Ensures the development and implementation of audits for compliance with all federal, state and local agencies addressing environmental, occupation health and safety regulations for all organizational sites.
  • Assists and guides manufacturing facilities in waste/cost reduction initiatives and activities that improve the overall sustainability of the organization, meeting societal and customer expectations and acceptance.
  • Maintains knowledge of and analyzes government regulations, industrial trends, and prevailing practices among similar organizations.
  • Analyzes cost experience and determines forecast for cost-control and risk-assessment factors; develops, recommends, and monitors budget allocations for all EHS programs.
  • Communicates in the areas of safety and environmental across all levels of the organization and externally as appropriate.
