Job Title: Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety Location: San Diego, CA Purpose statement: The Manager of Environmental, Health, & Safety is responsible for oversight and implementation of all Environmental Health, Safety and related regulatory requirements to ensure compliance, identify EHS gaps, and reduce risks at all IDT facilities in California (San Diego manufacturing and San Francisco R&D). Essential Functions: * Perform and oversee all responsibilities of an EHS Manager. * Organize the daily workflow, with help of the Danaher Business Systems (DBS) methods, in the EHS department and monitor the daily operations of the department. * Manages, implements and monitors safety & regulatory programs and policies. Including, but not limited to: * Completes all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA). * Maintains the Chemical Inventory/Hazardous Materials Business Plan. * Regulatory matrix * Maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance. * Troubleshoot equipment/system problems related to safety encountered and submit and follow up on work orders when necessary. * Perform/oversee the communication/awareness of safety and environmental management in the company. * Communicate job expectations and performance standards to employees within the department. * Delegate tasks or responsibilities to employees; use effective methods to monitor and review progress. * Facilitate the preparation and reporting of department metrics and performance measures. * Oversee the training program for new and existing employees; identify training gaps and optimal methods for monitoring and measuring training effectiveness. * Assist in the interview and hiring process. * Contribute to and write performance evaluations for members of the staff. * Assist in administering annual performance evaluations. * Assist in approval, denial and tracking of vacation / compensation day requests and timecards. * Recommend and validate any disciplinary actions as such actions and evidence warrants. * Interface with Regulatory Officials {Fire Marshall, OSHA, EPA & BLDG department) as needed. Lead all inspection activities. * Organize and Chair the Safety committee. * Promote a work environment that provides a positive and rewarding employee experience. * Demonstrates and upholds behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values and delivers the Integrated DNA Technologies experience to customers and other business associates. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Global EHS Director. Education: * Bachelor's Degree in a Science related field required. * Completion of 40-Hour Spill Response Training, preferred. Professional Experience: * Minimum of three years of Environmental, Safety, and Health and/or relevant experience as a Shift Leader, Group Leader or prior related experience required. * Working knowledge of all local, state and federal regulatory requirements required. * Working knowledge of IDT's Safety and Regulatory Programs and Policies preferred. * Working knowledge of ISO 9001 & ISO140001. Completion of ISO 140001 Internal Auditor Training is preferred. Other Job Qualifications * Demonstrated proficiency in time, organization, and project management. * Demonstrated ability to initiate action to resolve problems and improve processes. * Detailed knowledge of essential function and job duties assigned to other EHS positions. * Excellent communication skills / Ability to interact in a professional manner with public officials, employees and all levels of management. * Must have excellent computer skills which includes knowledge of the Internet and MS Office (e.g. word, excel, power point…). * Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues related to the position. * Adaptability to perform under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job. * Proven experience working collaboratively across a global function as well as independently, making sound decisions with minimal supervision. * Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. * Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers. * Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity. * Adaptability to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances or standards. * Adaptability to perform repetitive work or to perform continuously the same work, according to set procedures sequence or pace. Travel Requirements * Seldom travel (up to 5-10% of time) is expected. Physical Requirements: Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently. Frequent (34-66% of work day) * Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. * Sitting: to assume a position in which the weight is largely supported by the buttocks, usually with the body vertical and the thighs horizontal. * Standing: maintaining an upright position. * Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. * Using Fingers/Grasping/Feeling: writing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers or palm and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touch. * Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work- those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. * Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when auscultating and percussing * Repetitive Motion: substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Occasional (33% or less of work day) * Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. * Bending: bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist and/or bending leg; bending legs at knee to come to rest or kneel. * Pushing/Pulling: using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward/using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. * Climbing: stairs, stools, ramps, ladders. Visual Acuity: * Work requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. * Ability to read pertinent printed material and distinguish colors. * Ability to accurately read measurements on equipment. * Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
