Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Scientist with strong collaboration and communication skills to join the Genomics and Computational Biology team at CRISPR therapeutics. A scientist in this role will tackle challenging bioinformatics and computational biology problems and work collaboratively with research groups to lead genomics activities that are required to support the development of transformative CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing therapies.

Responsibilities

* Lead genomics activities for therapeutic programs by providing bioinformatics support, designing genome-scale experiments, analyzing NGS data, and authoring regulatory documents

* Design and implement computational biology pipelines and algorithms in collaboration with other computational biology scientists and bioinformatics engineers to support therapeutic development and research activities

* Generate and test hypotheses on genome-scale data using analytical and statistical methods

* Communicate scientifically rigorous findings via oral and written communications, visualizations, and presentations

Minimum Qualifications

* Degree (Ph.D., or M.S. with 6+ years of relevant experience) in quantitative or basic science (computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or applied science preferred)

* Experience in developing computational pipelines to analyze NGS data, particularly whole genome sequencing data, whole exome sequencing data, and/or targeted DNA-seq

* Proficiency with Python and/or R is essential; familiarity with other languages such as C++ and MATLAB is also helpful

* Experience in developing computational pipelines to analyze DNA and RNA high-throughput sequencing data and usage of common bioinformatics tools (e.g. bwa, BEDtools, GATK, IGV)

* Demonstrated ability to design and analyze quantitative 'omics or synthetic biology experiments in a hypothesis-driven research environment

* Experience in working in close collaboration with cell/molecular biologists and familiarity with developing hypotheses that resonate with collaborators of different academic backgrounds

* Familiarity with integrating NGS data sets in "multi-omics" analyses, from both public databases (e.g. GEO, TCGA) and from experiments with custom designs

* Ability to work independently and successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively

* A high degree of energy and attention to detail, and passion for creating transformative gene-based medicines for patients with serious diseases

Preferred Qualifications

* Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent)

* The ideal candidate will have experience working in close collaboration with cell/molecular biologists and would contribute to the collaboration by performing computational analyses to inform the experimental design and answer therapeutic questions, and ultimately guiding decisions related to therapeutic products

* Experience analyzing NGS data from DNA sequencing technologies (e.g. bulk RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, bisulfite sequencing)

* Experience analyzing gene-editing data (on-target, off-target)

* Familiarity with sequencing platforms (Illumina, 10x Genomics) and NGS library preparation methods

* Proficiency with statistical and/or machine learning methods

* Experience creating biological interpretation of NGS analyses and putting results into the context of regenerative medicine and immuno-oncology fields

* Proficiency with handling large-scale genomic data in a Linux and/or cloud environment (e.g. AWS, DNAnexus)

* Experience working in fast-paced team environments (industry and start-up experience is a plus)
