Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Analyst, Sustainable Economics that can act as a technical lead for a range of economic analyses related to flood resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, and other projects broadly oriented around sustainability. The position would ideally be based in California, but we are open to any US based AECOM location. The selected candidate will join the Sustainable Economics team within AECOM's Economics + Advisory Practice. Our team helps public and private sector clients understand their vulnerabilities to climate change and prioritize investments to support mitigation goals and adaptation strategies. We conduct economic and financial analysis to promote climate resilience, social equity, and environmental sustainability in urban infrastructure, city planning, urban design, and policy projects.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The Senior Analyst, Sustainable Economics will serve as a technical lead on quantitative and qualitative economic analysis with specific attention towards cost-benefit analysis for mitigation and adaptation investments. The Senior Analyst will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to lead discrete technical tasks, including developing and implementing quantitative analytical approaches; conducting data analysis, economic and financial modeling, literature reviews, and interviews; developing graphics and presentations to communicate key findings; and writing sections of client deliverables and proposals. The position requires the ability to work closely with managers to balance multiple projects and deadlines, delegate appropriate tasks to more junior staff, and communicate clearly with both clients and other team members.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy Analysis, Business, or a related field with a focus on sustainability plus four (4) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional experience at a planning and economics consulting firm, or equivalent professional experience in urban economics, environmental economics, public policy analysis, or related fields
  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field
  • Experience conducting quantitative economic analysis related to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience
  • Ability to think critically, analyze policy, and write effectively
  • Experience working on cost-benefit analysis that follows federal guidance (e.g., FEMA, USACE)
  • Experience leading discrete technical tasks, presenting and developing content for client deliverables and proposals, and presenting professional work at meetings
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with one or more of the following software packages:

o ArcGIS and other spatial analysis tools

o Quantitative/statistical programs such as STATA, R, Python
