The main research interest of the Lis Laboratory is the understanding of transcription, conversion of genetic information from DNA into RNA, and its regulation under both normal and stress/disease physiologies. To this overarching goal, we implement wide-range of well-established and cutting-edge technologies ranging from RNA Aptamers, Mass Spectrometry, Genome-wide Assays with High-throughput Sequencing (ChIP-Seq, PRO-seq, etc.), genome editing with CRISPR/Cas9, and rapid protein degradation (Degron). Assist the principal investigator in all aspects of the daily management of the laboratory, including but not limited to: equipment testing, setup, and maintenance; organizing the lab space, including arrangement of equipment and reagents; conforming to safety regulations; obtaining, handling, maintaining and storing biological material including human cell lines; maintaining laboratory records. Employ laboratory techniques including, but not limited to, raising cells in culture, DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, preparation of libraries for next-generation DNA sequencing, microscopy, flow cytometry, and other techniques and procedures as necessary. The candidate will perform research under the general supervision of the Research Assoc. Abdullah Ozer and Principal Investigator John T. Lis and collaborate on projects with other members of the laboratory, aid graduate students, and insure that other lab members adhere to laboratory organization principles and laboratory safety protocols. This is a full-time (39 hours/week) 12-month position with possible extension pending available funding and successful performance. Required Qualifications: Formal training beyond a HS Diploma of 1 to 2 years, Associate's degree, 2 years of college coursework or equivalent; more than 6 months experience in a molecular biology, genetics, or chemical biology laboratory setting. Molecular biology skills including DNA extraction, PCR, microscopy, DNA sequencing or similar. Highly organized and with strong attention to detail. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with general supervision as well as part of a research team. Ability to work with chemicals and biohazards. Maintain lab safety protocol and procedures at all times. Ability to carry out experiments to completion with moderate guidance. Working knowledge with basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and e-mail. Experience in collection of data and comfortable with basic database programs. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or other formal training program of four years or equivalent in Biology, Genetics, or related Life Sciences. One year or more of experience in a Molecular Biology or Genetics laboratory. Experience with cell culture, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, genome editing, and next-generation sequencing protocols.
