UCB is establishing a Boston R&D hub in Cambridge, MA to complement our established centers of excellence in Belgium and the UK. To strengthen our US Discovery Science group, we are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as US Head of Biology. This person will be a key contributor to the development of UCB's pipeline by heading the discovery and translational biology of programs targeting complement and new areas of biology. In addition, they will collaborate with colleagues to lead development of strategy and implementation of operations and programs on new targets both in complement and on new pathways.

As our US Head of Biology, you will contribute by:

Leading Complement Biology efforts:

* Discovery in multiple therapeutic areas
* Translational biology
* In vitro and in vivo scope
* Biomarker identification
* Zilucoplan and future programs new indications

Leading New Biology efforts:

* Exploring and initiating activities in new areas of biology
* Developing external networks to enable exploration
* Collaborating with colleagues across UCB to bring together the necessary capabilities for prosecution

Leading preclinical programs and partners with colleagues in Early Missions to progress through IND-enabling stage to Early Development

Influencing strategy and implementation across Early Solutions. Focusing on interfaces of technology platforms and therapy areas, and interfacing between preclinical and clinical phases

Developing high-performing team and strong external network to provide knowledge and capabilities

Being a key member of Leadership Team, defining and building the UCB Boston R&D Hub

Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

* Ph.D. in biology or related field with a demonstrated expertise in immunology and a minimum of 10 years of experience in a drug discovery setting

Required Skills:

* Demonstrated success in hiring, management and development of 5 or more direct reports
* Strong track-record of working on cross-functional project teams as a team member and/or project leader
* Demonstrated ability to deliver on multiple projects in parallel
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail
