SUMMARY:

This position works closely with EH&S Manager and employees at all levels to further develop the facilities Safety Systems. This position would be responsible for assisting Health and Safety (H&S) Systems and sustainability for the New York Mills facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote a proactive E, H&S System, including company driven Safety Management Systems
  • Collect water samples from raw, semi-processed, or processed water, industrial wastewater, or water from other sources to assess pollution problems.
  • Perform project monitoring and air sampling for asbestos, lead, and mold abatement projects.
  • Install and maintain data collection instrumentation.
  • Conduct bacteriological or other tests related to research in environmental or pollution control activity.
  • Support general safety functions.
  • Perform basic calculations and computer data entry.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required.
  • Set up equipment or stations to monitor and collect pollutants from sites, such as smoke stacks, manufacturing plants, or mechanical equipment.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills to drive continuous safety improvement
  • Conducts inspections and audits; investigates incidents and injures and drive accountability to resolve issues
  • Supports sustainability program and promotes all efforts
  • Ensure implementation of corrective actions, H&S policies, and best management practices
  • Conducts H&S training for facility personnel. Oversee monitoring activities, facilitate the Employee Safety Committee.
  • Prepares and maintains various H&S documentation and reporting deadlines, communicates with governmental agencies.
  • Monitors federal, state and municipal regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Review accident reports and provide dept. with information that will aid in reducing accidents and improving safety
  • Communicate all relevant H&S information to company and facility management, as well as all facility employees.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated record of strong leadership and willing to challenge the status quo
  • Minimum of one year of H&S exp. in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, State and local regulations
  • Loss prevention, Risk Management and a Workers Compensation background
  • Must have strong communication skills; ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong math and writing skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and adapt to changing situations
  • Strong analytical aptitude is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various H & S issues and prioritize work.
  • Proficient in Micro Soft. Compliance software experience preferred.


EDUCATION:
  • Two year degree in Applied Science, Safety and Health, Environmental Management or 5+ years of equivalent experience required
  • Certified in CPR and first aid.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Works in a manufacturing and office environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb and bend about the facility
  • Exposed to dust, odors, fumes and moderate noise.
