N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear Inc. and BWX Technologies, joined by our critical subcontractors Longenecker and Associates and Tech2 Solutions.

N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract.

Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

COVID Vaccination Mandate:

N3B is required by contract to comply with the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force Guidance concerning implementation of Executive Order 14043. Position Summary

This position reports to the N3B Low Level Waste Disposition Manager within the CH-TRU LLW Programs Organization, and is responsible for supporting waste management activities and support for Environmental Remediation (ER) and /or TA 54 waste generating activities. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, inspecting waste storage containers and facilities, characterizing waste and ensuring compliant handling and documentation of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes.

As an Environmental Professional 4 you will work under the supervision of the Waste Disposition Manager and/or an Advanced Waste Shipper to support waste management/shipping activities. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to handling, packaging, and storing drums and/or other containers of waste, track waste containers, coordinate waste transportation activities, mobilize/demobilize waste containers, receive/escort transport vehicles to/from waste storage areas, manage RCRA waste storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling requirements.

Environmental Professional 4 will also contribute to Integrated Work Documents, Detailed Operating Procedures, or other work planning documents, track waste in the Waste Compliance and Tracking System (WCATS), and assist is management of the waste storage, packaging, and shipping staging areas for the safe and compliant management of LL waste materials from the point of generation through final disposition.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Ability to effectively communicate, interact, and work with internal customers and with Federal, State, and local agencies and to deal effectively with the public.
  • Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies.
  • Organizes and equips spill-control kits for waste storage/staging areas.
  • Contributes and updates Waste Profiles for respective TSDF and/or NNSS
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging, and/or managing solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling and management of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in supporting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting waste management activities.
  • Basic skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of waste management processes, policies, and procedures to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance practices and principles related to environmental management.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
  • Working knowledge and ability to develop and apply highly advanced principles, concepts and techniques of analysis and reporting requirements related to NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, FIFRA and natural resources laws/regulations, and sufficient practical knowledge of environmental sciences to understand and utilize scientific data.
  • Provides Waste Management Coordinator support to N3B ER/TA 54 waste generators.
  • Strong background (5 yrs minimum) of hands on work in Waste Management
  • Knowledge of DOT, RCRA & TSCA requirements for packaging, marking, labeling & managing waste.
  • Understanding of LLW packaging & management of wastes (435.1)
  • Familiarity with waste characterization and waste generating processes
  • Regulatory compliance mentality
  • Initiative, dedication to seeing a project to completion
  • Knowledgeable of the utilization of WCATS

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelors' degree combined with 9 years' relative experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.

Education Equivalency: 2 years of relevant experience for 1 year of college.

Waste Management Coordinator (WMC) and or Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified desired.

Radiological and Hazardous Waste Management experience is desired.

Experience utilizing various Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Business Associations:

Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Impact:

Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment. Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office work environment.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Environmental Professional will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L or Q level Department of Energy security clearance.
