Overview: Responsible for providing technical expertise/leadership as subject matter expert in microbiology for a FDA regulated medical device manufacturing site. An emphasis will be placed in providing direct support for microbiology investigations, trend analysis, internal metrics, validation, training, environmental and personnel Monitoring, and technical studies for the microbiology department. Provides analytical expertise and informational support to the Regional Quality, Research and Development organizations, and other Bausch & Lomb sites on an as needed basis. Responsibilities: * Support microbiology validations. Prepare protocols, final report, and technical studies as needed. * Support and understand Endotoxin testing: USP and ANSI/AAMIST72:2019. * Support and understand Sterilization Processes: Moist Steam, Dry Heat and Biological Indicators * Perform and/or provide backup support for the review and or approval of release memos, bioburden testing, Environmental Monitoring data, microbial ID, particulate matter testing, and other microbiological tests. * Perform environmental room qualification. * Perform bioburden recovery method validations for medical devices. * Support and offer technical expertise for Microbiology investigations (PI's, LIR's and NC/CAPA). * Support Quality Control Request. * Support Microbiology projects as needed. * Provide/coordinate training, re-qualifications as needed. * Prepare and analyze trend analysis reports of environmental monitoring (non-viable particulate, viable counts and water bioburden) and other microbiology test data as needed. * Review and approve laboratory documentation. * Prepare and release finished product by memo release for microbiology testing to manufacturing release. * Promote a culture of safety in the laboratory. Qualifications: * BS in Biology, Micro-Biology, Life Science, or related discipline required. * 5 years in a pharmaceutical or medical device regulated industry. * Coursework in college level math and basic statistics helpful. * Ability to prepare technical documents using scientific writing methods. * Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in microbiological principles and application related to bioburden testing, microbial identification, environmental monitoring, water systems, GMP laboratory practices and clean room technology. * Experience in Microbial Identifications including fungal identifications.
