Description
The Sr. EHS Professional develops, implements, and monitors company environmental safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Responsibilities
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety Professional maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections, monitors hazardous waste removal vendors, and may assist consolidating hazardous wastes (chemical, radioactive, and/or medical). Interacting with a variety of departments, may conduct training in emergency response and hazardous material handling. Monitors environmental compliance and maintains liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies. Recommends corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Interacts with others in the administration of the worker's compensation program and the implementation of workplace ergonomics and program solutions. Monitors industrial health compliance. Begins to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.
In support of Humana's goal of promoting lifelong well-being, the Sr. EHS Professional is directly accountable and responsible for the successful delivery and oversight of EHS including: Work with internal business units on developing, implementing and executing an exemplary safety program keeping the main goal of injury prevention in mind. The
Sr. EHS Professional is responsible for:
* Maintain working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable codes, and requirements, at both the federal and state levels.
* Provide guidance, leadership and support to business operations to help ensure associate safety and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and Humana EH&S policies and programs.
* Work with internal business organizations to evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and processes with an overall objective to provide a safe and secure environment for associates, members, vendors and guests at all facilities and remote work locations.
* Communicate with business leadership and staff to facilitate implementation of safety and security programs and processes and enhance the safety and security of our associates.
* Function as an EH&S subject matter expert (SME) for internal stakeholders.
* Manage and maintain existing EHS and regulatory compliance programs.
* Assess risks and safety program performance.
* Develop and implement appropriate needs-based written programs, procedures and policies.
* Primary domain specialties include: Associate Safety, Environmental, Security and Risk Management

Role Essentials
* Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field or equivalent related and applicable work experience.
* 5 or more years' relevant experience in Safety or Risk Management.
* Thorough knowledge of Federal and State safety compliance and regulations.
* Ability to work independently under general instructions and collaboratively with cross-functional interdisciplinary teams.
* Solid understanding of hazard assessment and risk management principles and practices including risk identification, assessment and mitigation processes.
* Ability to benchmark, measure, analyze and articulate the value of safety and security initiatives, practices and policies.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Role Desirables
* Master's degree in Safety Management or related field
* Professional certification in Safety or related field (e.g. CSP, CHSP, CIH, etc.)
* Experience in working with multi-site and/or geographically-dispersed businesses.
Reporting Relationships
You will report to the Environmental Health Safety and Security Lead. This area is under the leadership of the SVP Enterprise Associate & Business Solutions & Chief Human Resources Officer.
