Position Description:

Are you looking for an entry level position into the environmental field? Serco is hiring a Technician for our Environmental Laboratory and Field Equipment Center in Athens, GA.

Serco staffs and manages the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) providing technical, analytical and quality assurance (QA) support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ESAT supports programs, such as the Office of Air, RCRA Program, Office of Enforcement & Compliance Assistance, Office of Water, Superfund Program, and possibly other EPA programs, Federal and state agencies, and tribal organizations. The purpose of these programs is to facilitate identification, assessment, regulation, and remediation of environmental hazards which may pose a threat to human health and the environment. ESAT supports EPA in the areas of Analytical Support, Data Review, Analytical Logistical, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, Administration, and External Lab Analysis.

The Laboratory Technician will:

Provide field and laboratory testing and support.

Assist with the performance of established chemical analyses, instrument calibrations, handling field and laboratory equipment, supply inventory, and load-in and out of field equipment and supplies for site investigations.

Support the organic extractions, metals preparation, and wet chemistry labs as well as the Field Equipment Center.

Receive technical directives, chains of custody, and enters project information into the Promium Element Data System.

Provide accurate and timely input of all client information related to supply/sample receipt, analysis, and specific client requirements. Provide the ideal candidate with on-the-job training and offer a collaborative environment with opportunities for learning and expanding knowledge and skills.

Travel to sites to assist w/ investigations.

Qualifications:

The Labotory Technician is required to have:

The ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Must have Valid Drivers License.

Must be willing to drive small trucks 25% of the time to assit with site field investigations.

An Associates Degree, and two years of related experience in a scientific or related field.

Knowledge of laboratory and experimental procedures and ability to apply knowledge in performing assigned laboratory tasks.

The ability to provide instrumentation and laboratory support for tasks such as instrument setup and calibration, testing, and maintenance; maintaining/updating equipment SOPs and manuals; glassware washing; field equipment decontamination and cleanup and custodial activities.

The ability to communicate effectively.
