Summary

This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19. This position is located in the Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS), Dunseith Field Office, Dunseith, ND, within the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and promote a comprehensive environmental health services program and to provide on-site technical assistance.

Responsibilities

Provides professional consultation and conducts professional EH services: plan review, routine EH facility surveys, investigations, and reports. Facility types include food service, childcare, healthcare, detention, water, sewer, lodging, recreational, casino, and other institutional and community establishments. Conducts professional EH training and presentations on varied general EH, occupational safety and health, and injury prevention for tribal and IHS audiences. Develops training resources and presents information using creative techniques to a variety of audiences. Develops program documents and compiles statistical data for program planning and budgetary purposes as requested by the Director, DEHS and other DEHS staff. Collects and analyzes data and implements and evaluates interventions to reduce injuries and environmentally-related diseases. Provides professional consultation in injury prevention and institutional environmental health program initiatives, healthcare accreditation activities, and special projects. May assume a lead role in developing, implementing, and/or evaluating existing program areas, or developing new ones (such as environmental sustainability).

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and obtain the required licensure/certification/registration with 3 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education OR, Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree GS-09: Completion of 2 full academic years of graduate level education OR, a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. EDUCATION:

Degree must be in Environmental Health or a related Health, Allied/Applied Science. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
