The Biology department is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for studies focused on the genetic and genomic bases of color pattern development and evolutoin in ecothermic vertebrates. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to on-going projects using zebrafish and its relatives, and will have opportunities to design and execute new projects with these or other species, using modern methods of developmental genetic, genomic, and phenotypic analysis.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based in Dr. David Parichy's lab at the University of Virginia (https://parichylab.org/ [https://parichylab.org/]).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* A PhD in Biology or a related field by the start date
* At least 5 years experience related to pigment cells of ectothermic vertebrates (fish, amphibian, or reptile)
* Excellent written and oral communication, demonstrated by a strong record of publications, grants and conference presentations consistent with the candidate's career stage
* Ambition, creativity, independence, and ability to work well with others
* Basic knowledge of histological methods
* Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry methods as applied to pigment
* Advanced knowledge of bioinformatic methods (including quantitative trait locus mapping or genome wide association methods, RNA-sequencing, de novo genome assembly or annotation, facility with UNIX, R or python)

* Experience with mentoring of undergraduates
