Investigator - Cell Biology
Job Purpose

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Play a lead role in the development and implementation of in vitro miniaturized cellular assays that enable interrogation of cellular targets or pathways
  • Independently execute laboratory experiments and advanced data analysis
  • Implementation of the scientific method with focus on quality and cycle time
  • Work in an matrix team environment to enable optimum delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard
  • Design and optimize biological assays, run compound profiling, execute hit identification campaigns, and/or perform mechanism of action activities as needed by program teams
  • As needed, play a key role in capability development, technology evaluation, and/or other global working parties within the organization.
  • Mentor other scientists within the department to allow the highest possible standard of scientific and technological excellence to be delivered to programs and/or platforms
  • Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, safety, best practice and laboratory standards

Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • A BS/MS in a life sciences discipline (e.g. Cell Biology, Immunology, Oncology) with 5 + years relevant laboratory experience or a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline

Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
Qualified candidates should have strong track-record in one or more of the following disciplines: Cell Biology, Immunology, Oncology, Infectious Disease or Molecular Pharmacology with:
  • Practical knowledge of cell biology and molecular analysis of cellular function; familiarity with one or more of the following:
    • Cellular pathway and/or phenotypic in vitro assays
    • Cell based in vitro assay development applicable to small/large molecule screening and compound profiling
    • Predictive disease-relevant tissue culture models with particlular experience working with primary cells/stem cells, and/or co-cultures
    • Complex data and biological pathway analysis
    • Experience in using state-of-the-art quantitative approaches, such as drug combination screening analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cell biology and a track record of its application to cellular pharmacology
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate data across diverse assay types to understand and influence the trajectory of projects
  • Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and agility
  • Demonstrated track record of achievement in basic and applied research as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed scientific journals
  • Ability to formulate and communicate a coherent vision/research plan
  • Experience in the following technical fields
    • Microplate-based assays
    • Biomarker assay development
    • Combination screening
    • Cellular target engagement
    • Comprehensive cellular pathway expertise

Qualified candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong enterprise behavior working across different lines to ensure optimum support of drug discovery programs. The preferred candidate will have a strong record of cutting-edge research in therapeutically-relevant cellular systems.
