DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Health Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of an Environmental Investigator II to perform daily duties in the field including the following:

1. This is a field position 80% of the time.
2. Conducts field spot inspections on ambulances.
3. Conducts initial inspection on ambulances and verify they have minimum Essential Equipment as set by the American College of Surgeons.
4. May issue citations to operators not in compliance with Chapter 4 Ambulances.
5. Appears in court for testimony regarding violations; provides testimony in enforcement hearings.
6. Must be cross train and may conduct inspections in Pools, FOG and Food Programs.
7. Serves as back up to Supervisor
8. Assist in criminal cases

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.

Job Requirements:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Engineering or a closely related degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of experience in pollution/environmental control is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills, fluently speak, read and write are preferred. SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None
However, the department may administer a skills assessment evaluation.

If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

SALARY INFORMATION Special Fund Positions
Grants and Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range for this position is

Pay Grade 16
