Position Overview

This position drives results in a fast-paced environment by managing the activities of personnel in the EH&S department and develops strategic plans for continuous improvement in EH&S performance. This role plays a key part in driving a culture of excellence in EH&S and will establish and guide site environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements and best practices. This position owns the site's potent strategy and containment initiatives.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • People Leadership: Lead in the development of a culture, and supporting systems, to drive open communication, participate in intra/inter-departmental idea sharing to build an engaged team; advance and model Mayne Pharma values and leadership commitments; assure the highest levels of quality, safety, compliance and integrity are adhered to in all interactions
  • Promote Culture of Safety: Develop, implement and maintain EH&S policies, procedures, programs, and compliance initiatives that contribute to employee health and safety and maintain compliance with environmental standards
  • Safety Leadership: Lead in the promotion of culture of proactive safety and compliance across the organization and facilitate continuous improvement; drive the development and implementation of an employee training program focused on EH&S compliance and best management practices

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Owner of site HPAPI containment program
  • Manage industrial hygiene programs and ensure risks of exposure, particularly to hazardous chemicals and active pharmaceutical agents, are mitigated
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for personnel, vendors, contractors through management and training of compliance policies
  • Coordinate and guide external consultants, contractors to assure compliance with corporate standards as well as federal and local regulations; specifically, commission an annual third-party gap assessment and develop required remediation and risk mitigation plans
  • Manage and maintain policies and programs to manage waste streams, comply with permits, investigate events, environmental accounting, air permits and emissions
  • Conduct hazard assessments and risk assessments for active pharmaceutical ingredients
  • When needed, provide design input to ensure equipment and facilities are safely and compliantly designed
  • Ensure compliant record keeping such as EMR, DART, OSHA 300 log, etc.
  • Conduct learning sessions, both electronic and classroom, to inform and update employees regarding critical policies

  • Qualifications
  • Master's degree in EH&S, industrial hygiene or a related field with at least 7 years of experience managing a safety, occupational health, or environmental compliance group
  • Bachelor's degree in EH&S, industrial hygiene or a related field with at least 8 years of experience managing a safety, occupational health, or environmental compliance group
  • Must possess an expert knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations; in particular, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards of General Industry, 29 CFR Part 1910, 1926, AHERA, CAA, CWA, CERCLA, HWSA, RCRA, SARA, and TSCA
  • CSP and/or CIH certification is required
  • Experience with Carolina Star program preferred
  • Demonstrated prior leadership/management experience and ability to lead and promote safety programs while engaging employees and enabling a safe work culture
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with FDA cGMP, FMEA and Risk Analysis; knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements as well as pharmaceutical industry requirements and standards
  • Must have completed or have the ability to complete the 40-hour hazardous waste site worker course

  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and other active chemical ingredients
