The Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences (CBHS) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a full-time, benefited, 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in Biology. The desired start date is August 2022. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related discipline at the time of the appointment. Applicants must demonstrate potential to develop and maintain an externally funded research program that complement those of the current faculty and build on the strengths of the department and interdisciplinary graduate programs. Candidates with research areas in biology for health, environment, or energy or related areas are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in instruction. Previous teaching experience is preferred.
The CBHS Department offers an undergraduate degree in Biology, an ACS-certified undergraduate degree in Chemistry, and an undergraduate degree in Pre-professional Health Sciences. The department offers a MS degree in Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Faculty in the department can also participate in several multidisciplinary graduate programs (including Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Science, Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, and Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences) and collaborate with the externally or state funded Research Centers on campus. Research areas currently being pursued by CBHS faculty include biomedical science, biotechnology/ biochemistry, environmental science, epidemiology, sustainable chemistry, materials chemistry, and deep underground science.
