Chief, Departmental Operations-Agriculture, Weights, and Measures

The Chief, Departmental Operations will be an integral leader in the department, responsible for administering, managing, and directing AWM Financial Services and collaborating with AWM division leaders to focus on departmental finances, fees, grants, contracts, coordinating and oversight of departmental legislative review and analysis, data analysis, development of the Crop Report, and items going before the Board of Supervisors. The Chief will report to the Agricultural Commissioner, Sealer of Weights and Measures, who is the Director of the department. The Chief will oversee the administrative penalty and hearing processes, through subordinate staff, as well as support the Fish and Wildlife Advisory Board, the Agricultural Damage Assessment/Emergency Response and Recovery effort, and Environmental Sustainability projects to further support the Board's Framework for the Future. The Chief of Finance will oversee a staff of 15.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and five years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification, which must include at least two (2) years of management or supervision; OR a combination of experience and/or education as stated above. A master's degree or higher degree may substitute for a total of one year. In order for education to substitute for work experience as indicated above, college level coursework must demonstrate progress toward a degree and may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Qualifying experience will include CAO Staff Officer or Project Manager experience that involves leading projects. The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience that demonstrates management of fiscal, budget, accounting, operational and strategic planning as well as second level management experience.
