Job Description

We have an opening for a Senior Environment Safety and Health (ES&H) Professional to provide advanced Industrial Safety (IS)/Industrial Hygiene (IH) support to LLNL programs and operations. This opportunity is a senior level that will interact with all levels of workers and management to perform your job, including external regulatory agencies.

In this role you will
  • Provide advanced IS/IH support and technical guidance for the Laboratory's directorates to ensure worker safety and compliance with applicable federal, state, local regulations, DOE orders.
  • Provide strategic technical advice to directorate line management, ES&H management of regulatory issues, their potential impact and mitigation.
  • Conduct health and safety evaluations and inspections of buildings, equipment, and apparatus to identify hazards and deficiencies, analyze collected data, identify trends, and provide recommendations to resolve and prevent recurrence of H&S and occupational exposures.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents and reports of occupational injury/illness/exposures for possible causes. Prepare documentation and recommend appropriate measures to eliminate or mitigate reoccurrence. Provide emergency IH-related response support to incidents on-site.
  • Manage and be held accountable for the success implementation of assigned Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior ESH professionals and stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in scientific, technical, health and safety, industrial hygiene or related field, or the equivalent level of demonstrated education, skills and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of conducting comprehensive Risk Assessment and/or Management of Change or equivalent.
  • Advanced experience providing guidance and support for complex, long-term projects within dynamic operational structure and facility.
  • Advanced experience in industrial, research and development, large science, and/or construction/demolition settings.
  • Advanced experience building strong working relationships and trust with a demanding customer base, a strong customer service ethos, and results driven orientation.
  • Documented experience managing and meeting programs goals and key performance indicator (KPIs).
  • Expert communication, facilitation, collaboration, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills necessary to effectively explain, direct, present, advise, negotiate, and influence worker, supervisor, and manager decisions/work practices to reduce IS/IH risks.
  • Documented experience of managing multiple ESH programs with success.
  • Experience leading teams to solve complex ESH compliance issues.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, or other scientific, technical or health and safety related field.
  • CIH Certification by American Industrial Hygiene Association, or CSP Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and/or Green or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience in ESH Management Systems including Process Safety Management Training 1910.119 or ISO 14001, 45001, or Operational Excellence (OE).
  • Knowledge of DOE Orders or DOD 4145.26M.

Security Clearance

LLNL is a Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Laboratory.
