PURPOSE
The EH&S Administrator will formulate and direct policies to provide a safe and healthful atmosphere within the workplace and to comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Health
q Develop, implement and administer injury/occupational illness prevention programs.
q Serve as the Environmental Management Representative for the Indianapolis Facility per ISO14001 objectives.
Safety
q Provide guidance to company to ensure compliance within key governmental regulations including OSHA, EPA, IDEM or other state and local regulations.
q Prepare and submit required reports to all applicable federal, state, and local workplace health and safety agencies.
q Create and administer in-house safety training, education and recognition programs.
q Implement workplace injury/occupational illness procedures - worker's compensation, OSHA.
q Complete regular routine safety inspections of SMC facilities and warehouses to ensure compliance with safety standards, health legislation and government regulations.
q Lead SMC's first-aid team ensuring training and certifications are current
q Respond to accident and emergency situations, and act as a liaison for all safety related matters
q Investigate accidents on site, identify causes, and provide recommendations on how to prevent future accidents
q Coordinate internal and external safety audits ensuring applicable safety and health codes are met and maintained
q Prepare timely responses to inquiries from governmental bodies on any issue related to Environmental Health & Safety.
q Assist in the completion of budgets for Health, Safety and Security initiative activities including consulting and testing.
Security
q Work with appropriate departments to ensure that physical and procedural measures are in place to protect people, property, and information.
Otherq Complete special projects as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
q Physical demands require the person to regularly stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
q The work environment at times will expose employee to the following elements: Noise, Heat, Cold, Dust, Oil, Grease, and Coolants.
q Usually work is performed while sitting in a comfortable environment but with regular exposures to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, fumes or odors.
q Some travel may be required to other SMC facilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
q BS in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Practices, Environmental Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
q 3-5 years of experience implementing multiple Health & Safety strategies to ensure compliance with internal and external Workplace Health & Safety requirements.
q Strong technical and problem solving capabilities with the ability to communicate to all levels of personnel.
q Strong system abilities and knowledge of personal computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications.
q Working knowledge with ISO14001 policies and processes is preferred.
