SPA assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to services and SOCOM. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations. #CJ #IN123
Responsibilities
SPA is seeking a Synthetic Biologist who will: 1) Serve as a technical/scientific resource on projects in the area of threat agent science, 2) Review and evaluates project proposals applying the basic principles of plant and animal life and the effects of varying environmental and physical conditions such as atmosphere, temperature, radioactivity or pollution, 3) Study reactions of plants and animals to parasites, bacteria, viruses, pharmaceuticals, radiation and chemicals, 4) Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge on subjects such as biology, microbiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics, virology, immunology, toxicology, pathology, physiology, medical science, veterinarian science, or health physics, and 5) Prepare technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions, and conclusions of scientific investigations.

Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Biology with a focus on synthetic biology
- Must have experience in one or more of the following: 1) Infectious disease or disease vector research, 2) Biologial agent detection or analysis, 3) Animal studies, FDA regulations, or drug development, and/or 4) Synthetic Biology or toxicology
- DoD Secret level clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research or functional project support in chemical or biological threat agent science
