The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Post Doc Fellow in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology. This position will study epigenetic regulation of drug resistance of hematopoietic cancer cells in the tumor microenvironment through sequencing data analysis. It also expects that the candidate devote 50% of time to make contribute to team science across the university for collaborative research. The candidate will analyze next-generation sequencing data, including but not limited to RNA-Seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, microRNA, and microbiome. Having first-author research publications in the field of sequencing data analysis is a strong plus.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
  • Develop new computational tools and or apply existing tools to address computational challenges as required by research goals.
  • Build, document, and maintain computational pipelines for NGS data analysis for genomics and epi-genomics.
  • 50% of time devoted to data analysis for collaborative researches across the university, build and maintain computational pipelines, and assure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Support and mentor graduates, undergraduates, and other research personnel; introduce basics on genomic data analysis to undergraduates and graduates during seminars and workshops sponsored by office of research and graduate education.
  • Maintain detailed logs of work related activities, including accurate laboratory records and data on research methods, procedures, and results, for the lab and collaborative research.
  • Prepare computational results for presentations to collaborators and PI, at conferences, and for publication.
  • Write and present research/study status reports for review and use of the PI.
  • Assisting the PI in preparing manuscript.
  • PhD in applied mathematics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or related field
  • Experience in NGS-based data analysis with first/co-first author manuscripts (submitted or published).
  • Skilled in programing with C , python, or other languages.
  • Skilled in sequence analysis, statistical modeling, and/or machine learning.
  • Know basics in molecular and cell biology.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams of co-investigators and other researchers.
  • Skilled at using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Skilled at strategic planning for research program development.
  • Ability to document data analysis procedure and present the results of research.
  • Ability to write articles for publication and conference presentation.
  • Demonstrates group presentation skills, participates in meetings, is responsive and speaks clearly and persuasively to technical and non-technical audiences. Writes and edits clearly and informatively, varies style to meet needs, and presents/interprets data (numeric, formulas, graphs etc) effectively.
  • Skilled in problem solving: define questions, gathers and analyzes information, identifies problems, seeks alternatives, and works well in team and resolves matters timely.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as prepare, present and report results effectively.
