JOB SUMMARY

The EHS Specialist works directly with the HSET team and serves as the primary resource to field and management staff for all environmental and safety concerns. This position reports directly to the HSET Manager and is responsible for developing and implementing environmental standards, systems, policies, and procedures that ensure company activities meet industry standards and comply with regulations. Incumbent travels to remote projects to monitor and audit environmental and safety aspects of field locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review and maintain all environmental permits, including water/wastewater, files, and documents.
  • Responsible for spill prevention and reporting.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the proper handling of new chemicals.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's policies and procedures, and with all regulatory requirements, maintaining a positive relationship with relevant state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as the company representative during facility inspections and develop necessary relationships with government agencies to build the company's reputation as a value-adding member of local communities.
  • Provide field-based support for air quality, land and resource use, waste and chemical management, water quality, wildlife studies, spill prevention and reporting, remediation plans, compliance, and crisis management.
  • Provide leadership and education in ASRC Construction's zero-incident safety culture and ensure the company's safe work practices are adhered to on all projects, activities, and operations
  • Maintain professional-level of confidentiality in handling customer, employee, and company information.
  • Responsible for the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Facilitate risk assessment at operating locations to identify potential health and safety hazards.
  • Travels to project site locations for inspections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi task to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to comply with, understand, and support ASRC Construction's safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial and non-financial reports to reach informed decisions.
  • Strong written communication skills, at a high degree of accuracy with the ability to produce business correspondence.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Biological Science, Business Administration, or another related field may substitute.
  • Five (5) years of related environmental experience.
  • Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any clearances required for the position, including military installation access.
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) experience.
  • New chemical evaluation experience.
  • Experience administering and overseeing a safety program.
  • Experience administering and overseeing an Environmental program.
  • Skill in the use of Windows Microsoft Office product suite and scheduling software at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response 40 hour certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • OSHA 30 certificate, or higher
  • Ability to complete Supervisor Signs and Symptoms training within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to work a modified schedule, including hours on holidays and weekends.

Preferred
  • Experience using Vista construction software.
  • Air Quality Control and permitting (Tier II) experience.
  • Certified in RCRA Hazardous Waste Regulations
