UVA School of Medicine [http://med.virginia.edu/] is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology [http://mic.med.virginia.edu/] in the lab of Dr. Isabelle Derré [http://mic.med.virginia.edu/derre/].
The position is funded through the U19 collaborative grant - Structure, Immunity and Microbiome: Human 3D biomimetics cervicovaginal models for Sexually Transmitted Infections (SIM-STI). The overall SIM-STI project regroups four laboratories and integrates bioengineering, microbiology, cell biology, and immunology, to study host-pathogen interactions. The present position will investigate the effects of sex hormones on Chlamydia trachomatis infections.
Qualifications:
* PhD in biological sciences is required
* First author publication(s)
* Experience in conducting experiments in a research laboratory, preferably related to host-pathogen interactions, cell biology or reproductive biology
* Experience in conducting research in a BSL2 environment
* Experience in tissue culture, preferably with primary cells
* Experience in confocal microscopy
* Able to coordinate and collaborate with members of the other teams involved in the SIM-STI project
* Strong organizational skills, working concurrently on several projects and meeting deadlines
* High level of motivation and intellectual and technical capacity to drive a research project
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
