The Department of Biology is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Timko. The individual will join a well-established research program aimed at understanding the biosynthesis of terpenes and other secondary metabolites in leaf and floral trichomes that impact flavor and aroma characteristics of plants. The position is focused on both understanding and manipulating trichome biology and metabolic activities in tobacco. The position has an anticipated start date of January 15, 2022.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires that the candidate has completed a Ph.D. in plant biology, plant genetics, or related field by the appointment start date. The candidate will have prior training and experience in plant molecular biology, gene expression analysis, and has clearly demonstrated skills in transgene construction and expression analysis as evidenced in the applicant's published works.
Anticipated duties would include, but are not limited to the following:
* Ability to perform genetic manipulation of genes and expression vectors and to perform transformation and regeneration of plants; expertise in plant cell culture a must.
* Ability to perform routine molecular biological experiments including DNA extractions, gPCR/RT-PCR, gene expression profiling with RNAseq technologies
* Ability to conduct basic microscopic and fluorescent microscopic analysis (for transgene tracking)
* LCMS and GCMS experience in measuring secondary metabolites highly desirable
* Ability to ability to maintain existing transgenic plants and seed inventory;
* Working understanding of basic bioinformatics and computational software
* Provide supervision and training for graduate and undergraduate researchers
