Manager of Safety & Environmental Affairs
Under direction of Manager of Facilities, the Manager of Safety & Environmental Affairs will develop and administer a comprehensive safety program to limit the risks of occupational illness and injury and loss of physical property within Western New England University and its subsidiaries to the lowest levels that are reasonably achievable. The Manager is the primary professional resource to Facilities and Senior Administration. The Manager serves as the Chair of the Safety Committee and other safety related committees as needed and maintains external relationships with governmental regulatory agencies, professional associations and other non- University resources as necessary. The manager provides a safety presence on campus to ensure that the University remains in compliance with all State and Federal EPA, OSHA, RCRA, SPCC & USDOT regulations and standards. Position will also respond to Emergency Incidents related to Safety and Environmental issues. The Manager will have the ability to effectively communicate using oral and written communications with a variety of University and outside constituencies.
The position is Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 4:30PM or as needed or assigned based on work activities.
Bachelors Degree in Safety, Occupational Health or Safety, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Masters Degree Preferred. Minimum of 10 years experience in safety management and administration in a complex multiple facility organization. Specific Training or experience in Emergency Management, Industrial Hygiene and Accident Investigation. Must be qualified to recognize and evaluate hazards of the working environment and to suggest general abatement procedures. Must have at least one, preferably two, professional certifications: CSP (Certified Safety Professional, CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Management, CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or QEP (Qualified Environmental Professional).
