Research Associate II - Microbiology

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Research Associate, II. This position will report directly to the Manager, Microbiology R&D.

Summary:

This position is to fill a need within our Microbiology group working in our Lexington, MA location. The individual filling this role will be responsible for providing general expertise in the areas of microbiology and bacterial physiology. The research associate will provide a lead technical role in the development of laboratory protocols for the cultivation of pathogenic organisms, development of gene target arrays, development of platform controls, and preparation of contrived patient samples for the development of diagnostic assays. The individual will work with the Microbiology staff to expand on our established protocols and methods to enable the accurate production of test samples for development of novel assays in conjunction with the Assay Development group and independently to develop novel strain constructs. This role consists of hands-on execution in the laboratory as well as technical leadership within the Microbiology group.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute protocols for construction of gene target arrays
  • Optimize current methods and processes for sequencing a broad range of microorganisms
  • Develop, refine, and execute batch records, SOPs and work instructions
  • Develop microbiological sample controls for use with in vitro diagnostic assays
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to transfer process to control manufacturing team


Skills and Experience:
  • B.S. or M.S. in microbiology or molecular biology
  • Experience in biotechnology required; 2-3 years for B.S. candidates, 0-1 year for M.S. candidates
  • Demonstrated expertise in microbiology/molecular biology required
  • Ability to work independently on tasks and problem-solving
  • Sterile technique and microbial cell culture expertise a must
  • Experience working with a broad range of bacterial species
  • Familiarity with process development and generating standard operating procedures
  • Excellent organizational, record keeping and communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellence with data analyses and attention to detail
  • Track record of success and independence completing assigned tasks
