Overview
Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Biologist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Vaccine Production Program (VPP) and the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Gaithersburg, MD.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of stable cell lines for VRC vaccine and biotherapeutic candidates.
Independently culture mammalian cells in plates, shake flasks, and small-scale bioreactors with aseptic technique.
Independently transfect, select, and clone mammalian cells.
Independently generate stable pools and perform transient protein production for supply of reagent-grade material.
Independently use PCR, restriction digest, and bacterial culture techniques for plasmid cloning and scale-up.
Coordinate cell line development projects in collaboration with team lead.
Perform experiments and analyze data.
Prepare medium and reagents and order supplies.
Oversee maintenance and support for one or more pieces of laboratory equipment.
Document experiments and results.
Write and review technical reports.
Write and review standard operating procedures for CLD processes and instrumentation.
Communicate progress to team lead and present work to CLD team
Experience Required / Requirements
B.S. in Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 2 years of relevant experience in cell line development or a related field OR M.S. in Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 1 year of relevant experience in cell line development or a related field.
Hands-on experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture.
Familiarity with molecular cloning methods, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis; additional experience with RT-PCR strongly desired.
Basic knowledge of cell line development principles and techniques.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint; experience with data analysis software a plus (Prism, FlowJo).
Ability to work independently.
Time management skills to enable work on multiple projects.
Strong written and oral communication skills
