Kezar Life Sciences (NASDAQ: KZR), a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company located in South San Francisco, is seeking an experienced and motivated Scientist / Sr. Scientist to join our Biology team.

Kezar is focused on small molecule drug discovery and development to target immune-mediated diseases and cancer. Kezar's lead product candidate, KZR-616, a selective inhibitor of the immunoproteasome, is being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of severe autoimmune diseases. KZR-261, Kezar's first oncology candidate targeting the protein secretion pathway via the Sec61 translocon, is now being studied in a Phase 1 clinical trial in several oncology indications.


The Scientist / Sr. Scientist will report to the Associate Director, Biology and will be responsible for development and management of internal/external screening assays to drive structure-activity relationship campaigns for lead generation and optimization. Meticulous organization of compound workflows and enthusiasm for robust assay design and transfer will be key to success. This role will be critical to advancement of ongoing and emerging projects and will offer opportunities to add managerial skills to technical expertise, as well as to participate in frequent cross-disciplinary interactions. Initiative to improve processes, flexibility to work on multiple projects under rigorous timelines and changing priorities, and passion for teamwork and global program insight will propel additional leadership and growth. In addition, this position will have opportunities to design and conduct cell-based mechanism of action studies to characterize novel therapeutic agents in the areas of autoimmunity and inflammation.

  • PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related area with 1+ years relevant experience or MS with 4+ years relevant experience or BS with 6+ years relevant experience
  • Industrial experience in an assay screening setting is required
  • Extensive experience with in vitro biochemical or cell-based assay performance/development/troubleshooting is desired
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture is required
  • Familiarity with CRO management is beneficial
  • Understanding of typical assay qualification/validation parameters is a plus
  • Experience with immunological techniques (e.g., primary cell isolation, flow cytometry) is a plus
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism) is required
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, communication, and presentation skills are necessary
