OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

? The successful candidate will perform routine assignments and protocols that are critical to the functioning and productivity of the Structural Biology group

? The successful candidate will manage the macromolecular crystallization facility and perform routine experiments

? The successful candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of improvements for routine procedures

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • General maintenance of the equipment and supplies of the macromolecular crystallization lab
  • Under general supervision, performs a wide range of assigned research experiments with
    efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail, such as robotic and manual crystallization experiments, tracking crystal growth, crystal handling and harvesting
  • Performs calculations and basic analysis on experimental results and develops hypothesis
  • Assist with synchrotron beamtime applications, paperwork, and logistics
  • Coordinate with CRO on synchrotron data collection, data retrieval, and storage
  • Maintains good laboratory and office records
  • Support other functional areas within the Structural Biology group when needed


DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge of the field of biology/chemistry, and a strong interest in the field of drug discovery and development
  • Demonstrates motivation and agility to learn new knowledge, techniques, software, and take on new tasks
  • Capability to perform routine lab work independently with minimum to no supervision upon full training
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel
  • Experience with computer programming language and with Linux operating system is desirable


Interaction
  • Frequent email and telephone communications with external parties are required


Innovation
  • Receives general instructions on routine work; detailed instructions on new assignments


EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • BS degree in a related scientific discipline
  • Relevant experiences in a research laboratory
