Company Overview:
At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we're not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we're driving excellence and improving outcomes. We're treating cancer, one patient at a time. Join us and make a difference every day.
MSK requires all new hires, volunteers, and vendors who come onsite to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This is based on the COVID-19 vaccines' high level of protection and our shared responsibility in protecting our patients.
Job Description:
Are you a computational biologist with a fascination for genomics? Eager to use your computational and data analysis skills to explore new data types? Join us and work at the groundbreaking of cancer research!
The Shah Lab is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Computational Biologist to join our team! We are an interdisciplinary team of bioinformatics scientists, molecular biologists, and software engineers motivated to improve the lives of cancer patients and advance the fields of molecular and computational cancer biology.
We are looking for someone to help develop and apply analytical methods to single-cell sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, and clinical data produced by large-scale research efforts in our lab and through our collaborations across MSK.
In addition, you will exploit innovative analysis methods, develop new methods and analyses, implement data quality control procedures, and train junior bioinformatics in those procedures. This is a rare opportunity to work with external collaborators and researchers within our group, gathering requirements for new research questions and providing an interpretation of results produced by production pipelines and bespoke analyses.
You Will:
Develop software to help drive forward our groups pioneering work in single-cell genomics
Dive deeply into sequencing datasets and ask novel and clinically relevant questions
Critique results and diagnose issues with new analyses
Continue to research new developments in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics in order to apply these methods to new data sets
Work and collaborate with researchers to answer novel questions in cancer genomics
Train junior analysts to run pipelines and perform routine analyses and quality control
You Are:
Intrinsically motivated to develop software that will advance science and contribute to a positive societal impact
Someone with a deep fascination for molecular and cell biology
Excited by new datasets and the opportunity to look at data in new ways
Detail-oriented, able to identify anomalies in data and quickly uncover the source of those anomalies
Capable of building strong collaborative relationships and delivering research-centric solutions
A good decision-maker, with proven success at making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
Resilient in recovering from setbacks and skilled at finding detours around obstacles
Adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situation
You Have:
Master's or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Computer Science with emphasis on applications in molecular biology, or an equivalent level of non-academic experience
Experience with Linux
Experience with Python or R
Experience working with high throughput sequence data (preferred)
Familiarity with git and experience working collaboratively on a codebase
Please also provide a link to Github or code sample - we look forward to reviewing!
