An Environmental Program Manager job is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Department within the Environmental Quality Division. This position reports to the Assistant Code Compliance Director - Environmental Health Services and will lead the 28-member Environmental Quality Division. The division is responsible for implementing citywide environmental quality programs and maintaining compliance with federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations; overseeing programs for air quality, surface water/stormwater quality, land quality/site remediation, municipal hazardous materials management, and litter control/illegal dumping enforcement; coordinating with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other partners on various environmental compliance issues within the City of Fort Worth; conducting research and preparing reports on multifaceted environmental and sustainability topics and making recommendations; and collaborating with community partner to address environmental concerns.

The Environmental Program Manager job responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for directing, managing, supervising and coordinating all division operations to include investigation activities within the assigned department, inspections of industries, businesses, residences, and other sources of environmental pollutants.
  • Maintains chemical, physical, and biological monitoring and analysis programs
  • Seeks resolution to environmental issues; ensures compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies
  • Provides complex administrative support to the organization.
  • Leads the division with defined goals and objectives; develops the division's work program and assigns work activities
  • Manages the division's budget, reviews and evaluates staff work
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, presents to various committees and community groups, and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Consults with stakeholders and prepares recommendations on environmental issues in accordance with best practices

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, chemistry, biology or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible environmental management experience.
  • Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid registration as a Certified Environmental Professional.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or high in environmental science or a related field
  • Certification(s) in one or more areas as certified environmental professional
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Extensive public contact and exemplary customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
