The Department of Women's Studies at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, to begin August 2022. We seek to strengthen our offerings in the following area: Feminist Environmental and/or Climate Justice:
We invite applications from scholars with a research concentration in feminist environmental and/or climate justice that foregrounds an intersectional and transnational/decolonial approach between women's, gender, and sexuality studies, and environmental and/or climate justice. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to: ecological feminism, feminist environmentalism, feminist political ecology, environmental ethics, eco-psychology, environmental and/or climate justice activism, the Anthropocene/Capitalocene, water/land protection, resource extraction, and/or just sustainable solutions. We are particularly interested in scholars who work from one or more of the following theoretical frameworks: global south feminisms, Indigenous feminisms, Black feminisms, transfronteriza feminisms, Asian American feminisms, queer and trans feminisms, and/or qualitative social science research methods.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related field. A minimum of a graduate minor or concentration in Women's Studies, or a significant track record of research and teaching in Women's Studies, is required. We also require the following:
- A strong record or promise of scholarly accomplishments appropriate to level of appointment
- The ability to support and develop the Women's Studies curriculum in environmental/climate justice feminism, including concerns related to gender, race, class, sexuality, colonialism, and nation
- A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching of a very diverse student population
- A commitment to strengthening an already successful M.A. program in Women's Studies
- A commitment to collaborating with interdisciplinary College and University programs such as the Sustainability program
- Demonstrated dedication to leadership, institution-building, and curriculum development.
We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
