Conservation & Natural Resource Policy Advisor

Agriculture. Conservation. Natural Resources. If these are passions for you, if you enjoy the intersection between technical concepts and practical application for farmers, this may be your next career move. We're looking for a knowledgeable professional who can communicate effectively with farmers, technical experts, lobbyists, law makers at local, state, and national levels. Your objective is to build collaboration toward science-based, economically feasible policy solutions to the environmental challenges facing modern farmers.

Who We Are: At Iowa Farm Bureau, we are committed to the people, progress, and pride of Iowa. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is a leading organization that advocates for the sustained success of agriculture, Iowa's farm families and their communities. An organization where some of Iowa's most talented people, drawn to the service of farm families, have come to develop rewarding and long-lasting careers. As the most respected grassroots farm organization in the state, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation offers a unique opportunity to be an advocate for farmers in a dynamic and challenging environment.

What You'll Do: As the Conservation & Natural Resource Policy Advisor, you'll monitor agricultural issues related to Farm Bureau Federation policy, including soil conservation, wildlife, water quality, and natural resources. You're the primary liaison between Farm Bureau, allied industry, non-governmental organizations, government agencies and the public on these issues, representing Farm Bureau policy positions. Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with the scientific community is key. You'll provide technical analysis to our Government Relations staff on relevant regulations and legislation and promote communications and programs to demonstrate agriculture's commitment to conservation and natural resource protection.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:
  • College degree or equivalent in engineering, environmental science, or agronomy plus 5 years relevant experience required.
  • The ability to build collaboration through translating technical concepts to practical language, creating shared understanding and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Must be knowledgeable about state and federal laws/regulations, USDA, NRCS, EPA, DNR, etc.
  • Knowledge or experience with soil conservation and water quality issues
  • Experience or ability to analyze soil and water quality data and trends
  • A working knowledge of basic agronomic principles or farming background expected
  • Limited travel is required.

What We Offer You: When you're on our team, you get more than a great paycheck. We offer a 401K with match, a defined benefit retirement plan, an incentive bonus, student loan repayment assistance, low cost health, dental, and vision benefits, and life and disability insurance options. Iowa Farm Bureau puts a lot of value in continued education and invests a lot of time and money into developing our employees. We also offer paid time off, including holidays, and teams who know how to have fun. Work/life balance is extremely important to this team. While we work hard and believe work is important, it's not the only thing. Add to that an onsite wellness facility with fitness classes and programs, a daycare center, and a cafeteria.

If you're interested in a career that makes a difference in Iowans' lives and in joining a company that appreciates its employees and offers great benefits, we invite you to apply today!
