The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.Position Summary:NRDC is seeking a Federal Clean Vehicles and Fuels Senior Advocate to work with the Climate and Clean Energy team in our Washington, DC office. The person filling this position will help fulfill NRDCs priority to safeguard the climate and protect all peoples right to clean air by reducing carbon and other air pollution from vehicles. The person will conceive, analyze and advocate for federal administrative and legislative policies to dramatically improve vehicles and their fuels such that, by 2050, all cars, trucks and buses on U.S. roads are zero-emissions. Policy areas of focus will include vehicle and fuel emission performance standards, measures to accelerate adoption of clean, electric vehicles and their fueling/charging infrastructure, and incentives to promote U.S. manufacturing of clean vehicles and their components. Advocacy in these areas will be done in coordination with NRDCs efforts to also advance other clean mobility policies such as those that expand transit and safe routes for biking and walking.

Responsibilities:
Lead NRDCs federal clean vehicles and fuels campaign, helping to develop strategies and positions, and organizing contributing staff efforts across programs and departments.Advocate for clean vehicle and fuel regulations and bills by direct engagement with administrative and Congressional offices. As appropriate, provide written and oral testimony in regulatory and legislative proceedings.Reach out and engage key stakeholders including representatives of community groups, equity groups, consumer groups, labor, electric utilities, automakers, equipment manufacturers and others, as appropriate to develop and advance policies.Represent NRDC through active participation in coalitions, providing collaboration and guidance to maximize effectiveness and grow support for needed policies.Conduct, lead, and/or support research and analysis of clean vehicle and fuels technical and market assessments and policy proposals.Support NRDCs communications goals by drafting blogs and issue papers and responding to media inquiries.

Qualifications:
Minimum 6 years work experience and a graduate level degree in law, policy, economics, energy, or engineering.Familiarity with transportation, vehicles, or energy environmental policy.Strong written and oral advocacy skills, especially communicating technical and analytical information in a clear and persuasive manner.Direct experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including environmental justice, social equity, and labor representatives considered a plus.
