Description

The City of Ventura's Water Department is looking for an Environmental Services Specialist with the drive and enthusiasm to deliver innovative quality environmental programs. We are seeking candidates who excel in an organization that values collaboration, enthusiasm, and new ideas.

Ventura Water is dedicated to providing the community with quality water and wastewater services, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. As environmental stewards, our goal is to integrate water management to create long-term health and economic benefits for our community. As financial stewards, our goals are to operate and invest wisely in maintenance and renewal projects

Under direction, the Environmental Services Specialist performs professional and technical duties such as conducting water conservation surveys and providing day to day administrative support for outreach and public engagement. With the persistent drought, water conservation has become critically important to the City and has increased the focus and workload related to water conservation. This position is critical to effectively coordinating these tasks.

If you have enthusiasm for environmental sustainability issues and a broad understanding of water efficiency, conservation and resource programs, this position may be for you! Through education, training and/or experience, you must have the ability to:

* actively engage with the public and organizations to work cooperatively to address environmental issues,
* provide exemplary customer service while educating residents about water conservation and investigating water wasting complaints when they occur,
* provide Water Conservation Manager Software support and Meter Data Management Customer Connect support to maintain relevant data, and
* assist in writing articles for publication and updating the Ventura Water's website.

A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, water resources management, public or business administration, or a closely related field, supplemented by one year of professional experience in researching, planning, or implementation of environmental management programs are required.

License: Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

When assigned to K-12 classroom presentations, incumbent is required to undergo live scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis test result issued within the last two years.

Application Review Process:

Department Selection Interview:

A select number of candidates will be invited to a qualifying panel interview process that is tentatively scheduled for the week ofDecember 13, 2021. Select candidates will be notified of specifics after the filing deadline. Please note, given the current COVID-19 situation, initial panel interviews may be conducted via video teleconference. Selected applicants will be notified of specifics at the appropriate time.

The department selection interviews will be scheduled promptly after the panel interview process is completed.

The Eligibility List established for this classification may be used to fill other regular and temporary vacancies at the discretion of the City.
