Assistant Professor of Biology - Genetics/Cell Biology

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of biology in the broad areas of genetics and cell biology, including but not limited to genomics, epigenetics, metabolism, computational biology, and systems biology. The successful applicant will be engaged in studies of the genetic and metabolic pathways underlying cell/organismal development and response to the environment, including genomic, transcriptomic, or metabolomic analyses or metabolic modeling. Successful candidates will be expected to lead an extramurally funded research program focused on model systems such as zebrafish and addressing fundamental mechanisms of genetics and cell biology. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory biology as well as advanced courses genetics, bioinformatics, or courses in the candidate's area of expertise.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in cell biology/genetics, the use and application of -omics approaches, and strong pedagogical skills. Applicants must have a PhD in biology or closely related discipline, a record of accomplishment in writing grants and publishing, and teaching experience and training to support student success. Candidates will develop a strong, independent research program, mentor undergraduate students through their capstone research experiences, train graduate students in the Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences and the Toxicology graduate programs and contribute to departmental and program self-governance.
