Position Summary:
Responsible for providing training and field supervision to the Environmental Health team, which provide services to minimize the risk of illness and injury to the general population and protect the environmental integrity of the city.Target Hiring Range: $51,563/yr - $58,614/yr

Essential Job Functions:
Provide training and guidance to newly hired Environmental Health SpecialistsProvide field supervision to Environmental Health SpecialistsPerform inspections for compliance to city ordinance of industrial and commercial facilitiesInvestigate and control infectious diseaseTrain employees and develop contingency plans and safe practice for response to biological/chemical releases to the environmentIssue citations or suspend operations based on failure to complyEvaluate food establishment floor plans to ensure health code construction standards are met.Educate food establishment owners and employees on safe food handling practices.Provide public information on food establishment inspection updates. Respond to citizen complaints.Perform air quality testing to determine and mitigate contaminants based on citizen complaintsExtract samples and test ground water for pollutantsConduct pool sanitation and safety inspections.Apply insecticides and pesticides are necessary to minimize nuisancesProvide quality control of inspection documentationAct as liaison to external and internal teams such as North Texas Food Safety Council

Minimum Education & Work Experience :
Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Environmental Health
4 year related experience
Registered Sanitarian License
Certified Professional-Food Safety
Hazardous Materials Certification
Pesticide Applicator License
Registered Environmental Health Specialist
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:Masters degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Environmental Health4 - 6 years related experienceKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:General knowledge of environmental health practicesConsiderable knowledge of chemical and hazardous productsGeneral knowledge of basic safe handling practices for food and industrial material practicesSkill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Skill in enforcing and communicating policies and proceduresSkill in conflict resolutionAbility to work in a team environment

Licenses & Certifications:
Registered Sanitarian License
Certified Professional-Food Safety
Hazardous Materials Certification
Pesticide Applicator License
Registered Environmental Health Specialist
Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions:
The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to walk on uneven and unpaved surfaces. Must be able to climb ladders. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to biohazards and infections carried by humans and bodily fluids.
