The Division of Disease Prevention, Policy and Global Health is seeking to fill a tenure track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Health Policy, with preference for a candidate addressing the health needs of disadvantaged populations. We seek someone with an established research focus on how decisions, systems, plans, and actions are designed, implemented and evaluated to achieve specific health care goals within a society, including attention to societal dynamics and ensuring health system responsiveness to community needs. Priority areas include, but are not limited to, how different stakeholders interact with each other to determine the health system and its governance including the state, providers, communities, and individuals, with attention to what this means for improving the efficiency and quality of health care delivery. Applicants with comparative experience across the United States, and with other parts of the world, particularly Latin America (Mexico) and Asia are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants for the position should have an advanced degree in public health sciences (PhD or equivalent) with training and experience in health services research, health policy, health care administration/management, health information systems or related fields. T he ideal candidate will have an established track record of externally-funded research or the strong potential to develop one. A commitment to graduate-level advising, mentoring, and teaching is required. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Preventive of Medicine (DPM) in the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine is undertaking searches for faculty members aligned with a variety of disciplines and areas of interest as part of an ambitious program of development and growth. With a base of 108 core faculty members and over 800 students, and recognized as one of the nation's premier institutions of population health and public health sciences with over $50M in funding for research in 2020, the DPM is building on current strengths to promote the transdisciplinary research and training needed to address today's many pressing population health issues - current and future pandemics, tobacco and substance abuse, pollution and climate change, health disparities with attention to race, sex, age, socio-economic status and other relevant factors, unsustainable healthcare systems, and understanding the risk factors that continue to drive obesity, cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, dementia and cognitive impairments, and other chronic diseases. The DPM's scholars recognize that these challenges are over-lapping and inter-connected in ways that demand coordinated and integrated evidence-based solutions that utilize ‘big data' and state of the art analysis methods to identify novel risk factors and associated "precision public health and medicine" and policy approaches to improve human health. To do so, the DPM conducts research that leverages its location in one of the largest and most diverse populations in the urban U.S.-- Los Angeles County-- as well as its collaborations with partners in other communities in the US and in locations around the world.
