A DAY IN THE LIFE

Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, tobacco, cannabis, and toxicity testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.

The Lab Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory including leading and managing teams which are directly overseen by Laboratory Supervisors, scheduling and coordinating staff activities and responsibilities for a team of 10+ people, coordinating with other managers to ensure work requirements are completed efficiently and accurately every day.

As a key member of the leadership team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
  • Coordinate work scheduling and laboratory resource allocation
  • Supervise and manage adherence to project requirements, QA/QC, and turnaround requirements
  • Assess production capacity and provided solutions for human resources, technical, and quality issues
  • Provide staff development services, career path evaluations and ensures the lab staff is developing necessary skills and abilities for the work today and in the future
  • Personnel supervision, time management, and operational efficiency
  • Hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
  • Conflict resolution, personnel skills development and team building
  • Accurate and timely communication with internal stakeholders
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Initiate and address non-conformance issues
  • Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Comply with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab Director
  • Ensure staff comply with Enthalpy's Health and Safety Plan

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachler's Degree in a Science field or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years laboratory operations experience
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Experience with managing direct reports
  • Experience in laboratory operations (not necessarily in a bioassay laboratory)

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Effectiveness - Positive outcomes and results of communication skills
  • Conflict resolution skills - Removes/breaks down organizational communication barriers
  • Assertion Skills - Problem diagnosis, assess corrective action from their lab
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain composure during stressful times
  • Familiarity with bioassay laboratory analyses and operations
  • Experience in supervising and leading teams to successful outcomes
