Position description
The Director, Preparation and Work Environment Programs serves as a member of the Center's senior leadership team and plays a central role in designing and implementing research and policy projects. These projects encompass, but are not limited to, early childhood higher education and certification systems; and early educator work environments and well-being. The incumbent may serve as the principal investigator on grants, oversee large projects, and supervise staff and graduate student researchers. The Director of Preparation and Work Environment Programs will lead and manage research projects and contribute to the development of CSCCE's strategic research and policy plans. They will assist with methodological design, data collection, analysis of original and extant data, apply findings to complex policy issues, and prepare written and oral presentations of findings. The incumbent will support other organizational priorities, as defined by the Executive Director, given the flexibility required of all staff in a relatively small and fast-paced organization. Periodically travel is required to represent CSCCE and present findings at meetings and professional conferences at various locations across the country.

Minimally, the successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to re-envisioning early childhood systems to effectively and equitably serve all children, their families, and the early educators who work on their behalf; a desire to explore the intersection between research, policy, and practice; and broad knowledge of early childhood education systems, reforms, and trends. Beyond these key qualities, the successful candidate must demonstrate vision, intellectual curiosity, and a level of research expertise that is required to lead this work; and the agility required to shift from project management and analysis, to translating and sharing findings, in order to foster a deeper understanding of the issues and influence public policy. Finally, the successful candidate will exhibit self-starter instincts requiring little management oversight, along with the judgment to seek supervision and/or input from others when needed.

Key responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and supervise mixed methods research studies examining the issues of access to and content of early educator preparation and training, educator well-being, and work environments.
• Provide supervision and technical assistance to CSCCE research staff to ensure that work is conducted according to specifications and schedule;
• Translate research findings into multiple written, visual, and oral formats to diverse audiences;
• Serve as thought partner with senior leadership and the research and policy team to develop forward thinking and cutting edge research and policy proposals; and
