The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine are actively seeking a full-time faculty member to join our Clinical Microbiology & Virology Laboratory led by Dr. Jennifer Dien Bard, an international leader in development of innovative testing for pediatric infectious disease. Our team works in close collaboration with the CHLA Division of Infectious Disease to support interdisciplinary care for pediatric patients, as well as many outside institutions and organizations as a referral center. Research, clinical service, and teaching responsibilities are intertwined in an engaging and collegial environment. The successful candidate will have or demonstrate an aptitude for excellence in applied laboratory science, translational research and education.
This position is at the Assistant/Associate Professor level; and salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience and scholarly accomplishments. Applicants must have completed training in pathology, infectious diseases, or medical microbiology with experience in molecular and clinical microbiology, including subspecialties: bacteriology, virology, mycology, mycobacteriology, and parasitology.A doctoral degree including MD, MD/PhD or PhD or equivalent is required. Qualifications include Board certification/eligibility in Clinical Microbiology (ABMM or equivalent) or American Board of Pathology certification in Clinical Pathology, as well as a California medical license upon hire (for MD candidates) or eligibility for a California Laboratory Director License in Microbiology (for PhD candidates).
CHLA's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's Clinical Laboratories provide a full range of diagnostic testing and consultation services, including: clinical chemistry; biochemical genetics and special chemistry; point-of-care testing; hematology/coagulation; clinical microbiology and virology; HLA, diagnostic immunology, flow cytometry and a full-service transfusion medicine program, including donor center, blood bank and therapeutic apheresis service. The Department offers a two-year Medical Microbiology and Public Health Fellowship, providing for rich teaching and research opportunities with fellows, as well as interdisciplinary trainees from Infectious Disease and other post-graduate medical education programs at CHLA and KSOM. Excellent opportunities for collaborative research exist within the Department with colleagues and resources in the Divisions of Anatomic Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, and Genomic Medicine/Center for Personalized Medicine, as well as interdisciplinary research collaborations with colleagues throughout CHLA, The Saban Research Institute (TSRI) and KSOM.
