Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Policy Associate will coordinate GIPL's local, state, and federal public policy and advocacy campaigns and help to organize GIPL congregations across Georgia to participate in advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. The Policy Associate will be the primary point of contact for all faith communities and congregations seeking to engage with issues of stewardship of the planet and environmental justice through policy change. Specifically, the Policy Associate will have the following responsibilities:

? Deepen existing relationships with GIPL's coalition partners, as well as local, state, and federal legislative offices

? Develop and teach educational modules for GIPL congregations around public policy advocacy and our organization's policy priorities

? Represent GIPL to the public in ways that encourage people of faith to engage in sustainability and environmental justice initiatives within the community

? Represent GIPL during the Georgia legislative session; this includes being on-site to meet with legislators and stakeholders at the Capitol, as well as forming / maintaining relationships with members of GA Legislature outside of the legislative session

? Represent GIPL in conjunction with the Executive Director at the GA Public Service Commission; this includes meeting with Commissioners, participating in the dockets related to the Integrated Resource Plan, Rate Case, and any other relevant proceedings

? Represent GIPL and coordinate with federal lawmakers and their aides; this includes policy meetings, reviewing policy priorities, issue-education, etc.

? Develop and oversee GIPL's Get Out The Vote efforts throughout 2022

? Develop practical and accessible ways for GIPL congregations, faith leaders, and Green Teams to effectively advocate for clean energy, environmental justice, and sustainability through policy change

? Oversee GIPL's work with communities, stakeholders, and local elected officials to ensure cities commit to aggressively reducing carbon emissions through the implementation of clean energy and renewable technologies

? Work in conjunction with the Drawdown Georgia team to develop and promote policy materials in line with GIPL's Drawdown Georgia for Congregations program

? Contribute to GIPL's online presence through content development in the form of videos, interviews, blog posts, and related content creation

? Participate in all initiatives related to grassroots organizing for the sake of policy change related to clean energy, clean water, clean air, and environmental justice

? Assist GIPL's Program Associate as a Green Team Coach for some congregations

? Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director


? Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required

? Experience working within policy sectors is highly preferred

? Experience with grassroots organizing and/or experience working with faith communities

? Proven self-starter that can work independently and is also excited about collaboration

? Knowledge and passion for environmental issues, particularly climate change, air and water quality, clean energy issues, conservation and efficiency; in particular, how these issues relate to congregations and communities in Georgia

? Experience educating policymakers, teaching communities how to advocate, and working directly with legislative offices and/or government departments

? Proven communication abilities, excellent writing abilities, and skills in public speaking

? Interest and experience working on issue areas including: rooftop solar, offshore drilling, coal ash, biomass, energy burden, etc.

? Ability to move between several policy priorities and coalitions simultaneously

? Experience in community organizing, grassroots mobilization, or public policy

? The ability to effectively navigate basic computer skills and an ability to learn database management
