Job Title: Sr Manager/ Technical Head Molecular Biology

How will you make an impact?
  • The Science and Technology Team (STT) develops novel manufacturing and analytical platforms and technologies that can be utilize in the manufacture and testing of advanced therapies.
  • Reporting to the VP of Science & Technology, the Technical Head of STT Molecular Biology will be primarily responsible for working with colleagues in STT to drive growth, innovation and customer engagement by leading the Molecular Biology R&D group to innovate and support the development of manufacturing and analytical platforms utilized in the manufacture of advanced therapies.
  • The Technical Head will build and lead a high performing technical team focused on supporting internal STT R&D. He/ she will be responsible for establishing a modern molecular biology R&D capacity, lab operations and internal technical transfers. He/she will provide strong leadership, guidance, and scientific oversight to internal team members. This role will drive molecular innovation and its incorporation into manufacturing and analytical processes. The Technical Head will work with STT colleagues to transfer technologies within STT and into other PSG GMP businesses, and keep pace with technological trends and market dynamics to identify relevant opportunities important for the development of STT processes and GMP manufacturability.
  • The Technical Head will have budgetary accountability to ensure operational and capital expenditures are aligned with corporate expectations. In addition, this position will directly support STT Business in achieving its revenue targets.
  • The Technical Head will interact closely with other STT leadership team members, and cross company stakeholders to ensure compliance, collaboration, and participation in technology transfer.

What will you do?
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise and lead the Alachua STT Molecular Biology scientific group of principal investigators, scientists, managers and technicians working on innovative science.
  • Provide technical input in lab design, buildout, and outfitting.
  • Work closely with Business partners in STT, PSG, and across the organization.
  • Assign work, provide feedback and coaching, shifting priorities and resources, as needed.
  • Oversee design and execution of STT Molecular biology projects, drive collaborations according to timelines, and champion resource needs.
  • Make decisions, directly or in concert with the VP of S&T based on the professional judgment, experience, budget, cGMP alignment, and the ethical guidelines of good business practices.
  • Coordinate with the other STT leadership team members on operational matters. Responsible for implementing the STT Molecular biology strategy, program timelines, and managing budgets.
  • Represent STT Molecular biology during external and internal meetings requiring technical input.
  • Assist in proposal development and design of STT Molecular biology work.
  • Evaluate the functional strengths and developmental areas in STT Molecular biology and focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to facilitate successful project scope and manufacturability.
  • Directly or in concert with the STT Molecular biology team review the experimental design, execution, data and reporting of work completed.
  • Address and resolve technical issues within STT Molecular biology in concert with the VP of S&T, STT colleagues, collaborators, and clients.
  • Facilitate Technical Transfer of process into the STT Molecular biology team, and ensure success across departments and multiple sites.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure new processes and technology are aligned with GMP practices, and implementation of controls.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, identify and evaluate raw materials, read the literature, and identify new approaches in consultation with the VP of S&T, STT colleagues, and collaborators.
  • Communicate progress to the leadership and colleagues.

How will you get here?

Education
  • Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and/or molecular biology required

Experience
  • A minimum of 8+ years hands-on experience in molecular biology, molecular virology, analytics, bacteriology, or relevant discipline
  • 5+ years in a scientific leadership role
  • Solid foundation in molecular biology and scientific method.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit dealing with innovation and product development.
  • Prior experience in creating, building, implementing, and managing scientific teams.
  • Rational persuasion particularly across sites and in discussions with collaborative groups.
  • Strong technical background in molecular biology and analytics based upon proven industry experience

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership qualities in organization structure, team building, cross-functional communication and accountability.
  • Strong people management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage through complex processes/projects.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and implementing multi-variable experiments to evaluate processes, analytical methods, and formulations
  • Familiarity with GMP guidelines
  • Must have strong strategic skills and ability to influence change.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to solve complex technical issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Up to 20% travel required
