HortScience | Bartlett Consulting (H|BC), a Division of the F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company, is a horticulture, arboriculture, and urban forestry consulting firm that helps state, local, and federal government, public agencies, and commercial clients create and preserve enduring landscapes.

The H|BC team is based in Pleasanton, CA. Clients turn to us when they need support with tree preservation projects, tree risk assessment and management, tree inventories and management plans, plant problem diagnosis, and soil, plant, and water assessments.

Responsibilities:

The field consulting arborist position involves a wide range of activities including field assessments, construction and pruning monitoring, data analysis and summarization, continuing education and maintenance of professional credentials, business promotion, and other assigned duties. The company office is located in Pleasanton, CA. Travel throughout the greater SF Bay Area to job sites is required. Key job tasks include:

Provide data collection, field monitoring, mapping and sampling.

Collect, edit, analyze and summarize field data as needed.

Approximately locate trees on site plans and create tree location maps.

Provide support for other consultants in preparing reports, correspondence and maps.

Provide field support for construction and pruning monitoring; prepare summary reports.

Perform site review for proposals.

Create and maintain schedules and emails in MS Outlook.

Participate in company-wide meetings and office activities and training events.

Maintain client files for projects according to company procedures.

Maintain accurate records (time sheets, expenses, mileage log).

Assist other company staff as needed.

Qualifications:

Education, experience, and certifications

A.A. degree in horticulture, plant science, urban forestry or closely related field; B.S. degree preferred.

A minimum of two year's work experience in arboriculture or horticulture preferred.

ISA Certified Arborist.

Able to identify common trees by common and scientific names.

Able to evaluate tree health and structure, and assess risk.

Knowledgeable about tree biology and structure, and how environment and site conditions affect health and structural stability of trees and urban forests.

Computer skills

Strong computer skills; able to create and manage electronic files, produce all work product, communications, and maintain records electronically.

Experience in document creation and formatting in Microsoft Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat.

Proficient in creating and maintain correspondence and schedules in MS Outlook.

Knowledge of ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD desired.

Personal and physical requirements

Able to work outdoors for prolonged periods on uneven ground while carrying approximately 5 lbs. of equipment.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Able to perform visual assessments of plants and sites.

Able to work efficiently and independently.

Strong sense of customer service and cooperative approach to client interaction.

Good organizational skills; able to manage time, meet deadlines, keep records and documents organized.

Intelligent, reliable, self-motivated.

Work and interact with people with integrity and honesty.

Valid Driver's License and clean Motor Vehicle Record.
