Overview:

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is searching for a Post-Doctoral Research: Cradle Kalamazoo Data Backbone. The Cradle Kalamazoo Data Backbone is grounded in a research justice framework, combining community participatory research with implementation science to place data production and interpretation in the hands of community stakeholders, and to apply scientific methods for identifying not just whether an intervention or a process works, but for whom it works and why. Our research focus is population health equity through high-quality opportunities for Black, Brown and poor people to live, learn, work and belong.

The postdoctoral researcher will lead their project, with the chance to collaborate with academic experts in epidemiology, sociology, geography, economics, and community experts in grassroots organizing, public health practice, service delivery systems, and institutional quality improvement strategies.

Responsibilities:

Addressing maternal-child health disparities through systems' transformation of opportunity access and quality.

Pillar 2. Fetal-Infant Mortality Review (national mentor site, 40+ community and institutional stakeholder members). Root cause case reviews of what went right and what went wrong in a specific death; a review that includes family loss experiences and frontline providers' perspectives

Pillar 3. Care Coordination Registry (4,000+ prenatal home visitation referrals and outcomes). Referral registry to facilitate community access to home visitation help, provide administrative support for agencies to reach families, and system-level metrics on who is getting referrals, enrolling and the impact on care access and health outcomes.

Pillar 4. Big Data (20+ years longitudinal, multi-sector database of Kalamazoo County residents from birth to death). Tracking service delivery; transparency in who, where and how services are delivered - and their impact.

Availability to work on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.

Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

All other duties as assigned.
