Overview
Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Biologist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Laboratory of Viral Diseases (LVD) & SARS-CoV-2 Virology Core (SVC), Bethesda, MD.
Responsibilities
Conduct research in a BSL3 laboratory.
Read and follow protocols in the production of laboratory reagents.
Perform mammalian cell culture aseptic techniques.
Work with standard virological techniques that include virus enumeration (plaque and TCID50 assays) viral stock preparation, virus concentration and purification, scale-up, and characterization.
Work with molecular biology techniques including quantitative PCR and molecular cloning with next generation deep sequencing techniques.
Proficient in the design and application of ELISA techniques to quantify viral antigens or in support of serology.
Perform work with anti-viral compound screening using cell-based assays.
Perform assays to measure the functional properties of antibodies including neutralization assays.
Maintain accurate laboratory records.
Analyze, discuss, and interpret data with other members of the lab, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
Maintain lab supplies - order scientific reagents and equipment, such as obtaining price quotes, tracking of orders, inventory of materials, and restocking the laboratory.
Maintain safe workplace and must adhere to all appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations.
Strict adherence to all safety requirements and protocols in a high containment BSL-3 laboratory environment.
Experience Required / Requirements
Master's Degree plus 6 years of experience or bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
Must complete and maintain a NIH Tier 3 elevated security clearance required for work in high containment laboratories and maintain fof standing in the NIH Biosurety program.
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including a PAPR.
Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
Must be able to receive required vaccinations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
