Overall Position Summary and Objectives Primarily, candidate will assist with recombinant protein production using multiple systems followed by protein purification and assessment of purity and yield. Process improvement and method development work will be included to increase yield and efficiency. Assist with general lab maintenance, the preparation of buffers and media, and other routine reagents to help support the primary line of investigation. Additionally, will perform PCR to determine the genotype for maintenance of the lab mouse colony. Opportunities for cell culture for various assessments as need is determined. Opportunity to develop new methods and instrumentation as time warrants. Will maintain a detailed daily notebook and have regular update meetings. Location- Bethesda, MD

Statement of work details

Performs research activities and other tasks in a laboratory environment.

Perform cell culture and biochemistry experiments, including basic tissue culture techniques, isolation of proteins from tissues cells, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry immunofluorescence

Records observations and measurements and reports results at weekly laboratory meetings.

Analyze experiment results and present findings in project meetings

Prepare and deliver periodic oral group meeting reports

Documents and analyzes data from experiments.

Collect, analyze and interpret data for experimental results; prepare tables and figures

Evaluates new technologies and instruments.

Develop and optimize novel bioanalytical methods based on the future needs

Search existing literature; propose, design and test alternative assays for difficult screening targets

Maintains lab notebooks and lab equipment.

Maintain and update accurate records of daily experiments and results including research documentation

Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and equipment

Writes technical reports and prepares manuscripts.

Prepare manuscripts and figures for publication

Performs lab techniques which study the chemical processes of living organisms.

Perform assays to validate antibodies western blot analysis, ELISA and immunoprecipitation

Conducts research experiments that will determine the effects of food, drugs, serums, hormones, and other substances on tissues and processes of living organisms.

Carry out drug repurposing screens against compound collections using the assays developed or transferred from collaborators

Set-up and maintain a cell culture lab; provide the material for compound screens

Presents findings at scientific conferences and meetings.

Present data and results at regularly scheduled lab data clubs and journal clubs

Prepare posters and oral presentations for delivery at scientific meetings

Participates in the development of laboratory procedures.

Work with staff in the design, implementation, interpretation, and reporting of bioanalytical method development and sample analysis

Qualification:

Bachelor's degree required, minium Master's degree in Molecular Biology

At least 2 years of molecular biology experience required

Good written and oral communication skills required

Good organizational and time management skills required

96 well plate-based assay experience preferred

Protein purification experience preferred

Mammalian and yeast cell culture experience preferred

Coordinate with team leader and PI to set goals and establish priorities to ensure best practices

Maintain a lab information management system for the organization and retrieval of key reagents and resources

Use methods for the purification and characterization of proteins from recombinant bacterial, mammalian and yeast sources

Perform FPLC, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting/detecting, and ELISA

Use molecular biology applications for the cloning and characterization of recombinant expression products

Assist with mouse genotyping and maintenance of mouse colony

Maintain record keeping of experimental procedures and generated reagents

Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases; collect and organize data

Attend laboratory meetings, present results and findings to staff

Software skills-

Microsoft Office Suite

Graphpad Prism (or equivalent analysis package)

ImageJ (or equivalent image analysis package)
