Microbiology Lab Manager

Job Description

Selux is a Boston-based start-up company developing clinical microbiology diagnostic solutions to combat the antibiotic resistance epidemic. The company is seeking a lab manager with experience in microbiology to join its fast-growing team. The successful candidate will oversee general lab activities and will work closely with Selux's scientists and engineers to test and troubleshoot Selux's rapid antimicrobial susceptibility test systems for bacterial isolates and positive blood culture samples. The lab manager will also be an integral part of the Selux clinical trial team during upcoming clinical evaluations of Selux's breakthrough technologies. The successful applicant will be a hard-working, dedicated scientist with a desire to grow by working on a fast-paced, highly-collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with an interdisciplinary group to enable and ensure completion of planned lab testing activities
  • Manage test plan scheduling to meet company milestones
  • Management and maintenance of Selux microorganisms strain bank
  • Monitoring, management, and ordering of lab supplies
  • Routine and non-routine testing of Selux next generation AST systems
  • Development of work instructions to perform testing
  • Collaboration and interfacing with the Selux engineering team to improve and refine systems and testing workflows
  • Partner with Quality group to ensure equipment is maintained appropriately to the work being performed in the lab
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance to lab biological and chemical safety standards
  • Depending on experience, serving as a voice of the customer to help develop Selux products


Qualifications
  • A BA/BS in Microbiology, Biology, Medical Lab Science (MLS), Clinical Lab Science (CLS), or a related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant lab experience in a clinical, academic, or industry environment
  • Experience developing work instructions and SOPs for lab testing and processes
  • Excellent aseptic technique
  • A desire to play a key role in developing new technologies
  • An independent thinker and problem-solver, who is an enthusiastic and collaborative professional
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Passion about an early-stage start-up that aims to change industry and how healthcare is delivered!
