JOB SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Bilingual Environmental Health Scientist II fluent in Spanish and English. This position may be located in Columbus, OH, Crystal City, VA or remote location.

Battelle's Health Research group, headquartered in Columbus, OH, supports government and commercial clients on a variety of public health research and application areas, such as environmental health, military health, health communications, healthcare quality, and program evaluation. Within the Health Research group, the Environmental Health Outcomes team provides technical, analytic, policy, and logistical support to a range of U.S. government clients, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The primary functions of this position will be to perform a range of tasks in support of protecting human health and the environment both domestically and internationally (including Latin America), related to a suite of projects focused on public health, pollution prevention, and environmental governance. Key responsibilities will include conducting desk research, drafting technical reports, notetaking and creating meeting summary reports, facilitating logistical planning for virtual and in-person events, and providing travel coordination support for project stakeholders.

This position will offer an opportunity to engage with U.S. and International government representatives, as well as stakeholders from academia, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, thereby requiring candidates to serve as a professional face of the organization.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides relevant technical and/or coordination support to a range of public health, environmental governance, sustainable development, and pollution prevention projects
* Assists with the planning and facilitation of a variety of environmental health science activities, to include stakeholder engagement efforts, consensus-based agenda setting, capacity building activities and events, decision support tools, and outreach and education materials or activities
* Prepares content for technical reports, presentations, briefings, or project status reports that are clear, concise, technically accurate, and of highest professional quality
* Assists with conducting literature or policy reviews, environmental scans and other information gathering activities to inform programmatic needs
* Plans and facilitates advanced logistical support for events, including hosting events on virtual platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams, etc.), developing meeting materials for in person events (e.g., agendas, nametags, certificates, etc.), managing procurement processes with external vendors, conducting international travel coordination support
* Facilitates relationships through a collaborative workstyle, communicating and working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including stakeholders from diverse professional backgrounds and from various countries around the world
* Demonstrates independent problem solving by using technical experience, sound judgment and precedented tasks to inform potential solutions

THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED

* Fluent in Spanish with the ability to routinely conduct business communications with project partners and stakeholders in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
* Bachelor's degree in public health, environmental sciences, environmental studies, environmental policy, environmental planning, international development, global studies, urban studies, geography and/or a related field.
* Two or more years of professional experience with program/project management, public health or environmental research, studies, assessments or local, state, federal or international regulatory work.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and Spanish), including the willingness and ability to translate communications and foster effective working relationships, collaboration, and decision-making with a broad range of stakeholders
* Experience working on environmental health outcomes projects.
* Organized and detail oriented to effectively document, track and report on project status at a moment's notice
* Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed, once it is appropriate and safe to do so

PREFERRED SKILLS INCLUDE

* Master's degree in public health, environmental sciences, environmental studies, environmental policy, environmental planning, international development, global studies, urban studies, geography and/or a related field
* Experience working on U.S. government funded grants or contracts with a domestic or international focus.
* Ability to work with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including experience working with international partners or stakeholders.
* Work experience in one or more of the following areas: global health, air quality, climate change, solid waste management, marine litter, pollution prevention, natural resource management, environmental impact assessment, sustainable development, and/or environmental governance.
